What are virtualized numbers?

A virtualized number is a GSM/MSISDN (normal number) that has been converted to a programmable number by configuring it with a hunting number so that it can handle multiple calls simultaneously.

What are the requirements to virtualize my number?

  • The number needs to be a Safaricom line and registered under a company name.

  • Virtualization takes around 3 to 7 days and the number goes offline during the process.

  • The Virtualization process is reversible.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of virtualizing my number?

The key advantage is that your number will be able to handle concurrent incoming calls, if you were using the line before you wouldn’t have to change it to achieve this.

However, you will not be able to use the line for messages or Whatsapp and you can't outbound calls using the line.

Why can’t I make outbound calls using my virtualized number?

When a customer calls your virtualized number the call will be channeled to you as it is(no need to go through a hunting number). However, when making an outbound call from the virtual number the call will go through the hunting number as it is a requirement by the regulatory bodies. So to make the call through your virtualized number, the call has to be masked. Call masking is not allowed.
